Friends of mine who live abroad, bought this beautiful 1892 Terrace Cottage as their home away from home in Cape Town. I have been involved in the project from the outset.
The interior of the cottage has been decorated with a great sense of respect for the original building. It has a great collection of art and interesting pieces of furniture collected with great consideration and carefully curated. It is a real home, where objects tell stories. Each space is created to enhance the sense of peacefulness.
We recently refurbished the guest suite, repainted the bedroom, added a pagoda and retiled the front garden. As with many houses this age, all refurbs are more than you bargained for- so the project was not without it’s challenges. The most important part is that, now complete, it looks as though it has always been that way. It fits!
The clients are thrilled with the fresh look in the main bedroom and refurbished guest room and bathroom. The pagoda outside will be the place where many al fresco dinners are enjoyed on balmy summer evenings overlooking the Waterfront and the Harbour.
This home embodies so many things I hold dear. It has a sense of place, it tells a story, as does every piece of art and piece of furniture. It is a peaceful retreat where guests would feel totally relaxed and at home, which is the intention.
