I was thrilled to be invited as a guest to exhibit at Decorex CT 2019. I was asked to reflect my style in a space that reflects African inspired design – feeling at home. It was for the Maison Objets section, curated by the lovely Sherri Chipps.
I wanted to create a space in which I could showcase objects produced by my favourite local designers and suppliers that I use in interior projects. I also wanted to create a space that feels like Cape Town- specifically thinking of a dream penthouse space overlooking a starry night.
I used artwork by Philippa Allen – original charcoals reflecting Cape Town scenes and depicting a sense of place before and after development, Julia Swanepoel’s mapscapes, looked to me like a starscape- a mapping of the stars. Julia’s renowned and beautiful woven carpets offset the space in greys and bright Gold. Detailing from Wiid design and Ceramic Matters Colabs, with tables and chairs from Vogel and a spectacular brass topped coffee table from the super talented James Mudge. Textiles from Evolution products, Soft seats from Wunders. a molecule light from Hoi Ploi.
The showstopper was a part of a gorgeous installation from artist Gregg Brill- Constellation- of Suns and sunbirds. 100 birds (part of 100 bird artwork- hung above the table- beautiful dancing sunbirds to show Greggs work and the work that we love to collaborate on.
